EU-funded project for supporting FYROM Statistical Office kicks off

A start of the EU-funded project for 'Support to the State Statistical Office' was promoted Wednesday at the EU Info-Centre.

The European Union attaches great significance to correct, reliable statistics as it leads the country to progress and is crucial for the EU-integration reforms, EU Ambassador to FYR Macedonia Erwan Fouere said at the promotion.


The Government fully supports the State Statistical Office as a coordinator of the country's statistical system, Vice Premier Vasko Naumovski said.


The technical assistance project aims to improve the range and the quality of official statistics harmonised with the EU acquis and international standards through pilot projects and professional support. The project amounts to EUR 1,8 million.


The beneficiaries of the project are: the State Statistical Office – direct beneficiary, and the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia and the Ministry of Finance. The assistance will be provided by ASA Institut fur Sektoranalyse und Politikberatung GmbH in consortium with DESTATIS and the Czech Statistical Office.

 

The project is composed of the following four components: development of a quality system for all processes in the production of statistics; further harmonised national accounts and other economic statistics improved business statistics; improved social statistics. The project duration is 24 months.
