Serbia actively cooperating with European Parliament

Michael Roberts - 19.03.2010

Minister of Justice Snezana Malovic said yesterday after meeting with European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin that Serbia wants to pursue the path to European integration and to have an active dialogue with the European Union and the European Parliament.

Malovic said that all the reforms that are taking place in our country at judiciary level aim at increasing the legal protection of our citizens and create conditions for increasing the credibility of Serbia in the world.

Kacin has congratulated the Minister of Justice on everything Serbia has achieved to create the conditions for the effective working of a legal state, as well as in creating conditions for the next phase of entering the EU.

He pointed out that one of these conditions is full cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), leading to the unfreezing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA).

European institutions cannot consider applications for the Serbian candidacy until the process of ratification of the SAA starts.

Kacin stressed that the aim of his visit to Serbia is to make sure that the rule of law is a precondition for everything else.
