Turkey Industrial Production Jumps on Base Effect

Industrial production in December 2009 jumped by a gigantic 25.2% y/y, more than
both the market consensus for 15.7% rise and our forecast for a higher 18.0%
increase. This was mostly due to the very weak production level a year ago (or base
effect) and higher number of working days this year. The production level previous
year was at an exceptionally depressed level due to the economic crisis and the
Islamic holiday. In due course, the seasonally adjusted industrial production
increased by only 0.7% m/m, supporting our expectation over a weak economic recovery
going forward.
