Sweden's IKEA furniture in land purchases for Serbia sales centres

Swedish furniture manufacturer IKEA has bought land for new sales centres in Nis, eastern Serbia and Cacak in the west and is also negotiating a purchase in Belgrade, the domestic Blic newspaper reported.

The government appeared willing in principle to allow purchase of the property near a Belgrade motorway but regulations that ordain it as agricultural land would first have to be changed to allow construction, which could take 10 months, Blic said after a meeting of company and state officials.

IKEA (www.ikea.com) is also negotiating with the propery's owners for the purchase, the newspaper added.
